Hot take: That gelding in Boulder with the crazy long toe finally got me to try a new rasp.
After three weeks of his owner refusing a trim, I used a Heller 14-inch half-round and got his foot level in under 20 minutes, so what's your go-to tool for a neglected pasture trim?

That "crazy long toe" situation is a real workout. I heard a farrier on a podcast say a sharp 10-inch flat mill bastard file is his secret weapon for taking down flare fast before you even touch the rasp. Lets you get aggressive without the bounce.

That's a solid tip about the mill file. Which podcast was that farrier on? I've been using a regular rasp for flare and it does bounce like crazy on really long toes. How much time does switching to the file first actually save you on a tough pair of front feet?
