Picked hot vs. cold shoeing for a nervous mare yesterday

Had to decide between a hot fit and a cold fit for a new client's mare who gets jumpy. I went with hot shoeing because the quiet rasping seemed to calm her down. Has anyone else noticed horses relax more with a hot fit?

Roughly 70% of the nervous horses I've handled actually tense up more from the heat near their hoof wall, not the sound. The calm you saw might be from the slow pace and predictable rhythm of hot fitting, not the heat itself. Did you try a cold fit with a farrier who just took his time on the prep work?

That's a really good point, Tyler. Appreciate you sharing that.
