Switched to a flat rasp for hoof prep after 8 years of using a curved one

My horses kept getting quarter cracks till my mentor Bill at the Oklahoma clinic told me to try flat and now I haven't seen one in 6 months has anyone else made that switch?

Your mentor Bill really knew his stuff cause the flat rasp totally changed how I trim too. The curved one was giving me weird angles that made the hoof wall flare out on the heels every time. Once I switched to flat it forced me to take smaller more controlled passes and now my horses have way stronger hoof walls with no more stress cracks.

Hold up wait wait wait. You're telling me curved rasps were causing the flare issues this whole time? I've been battling quarter cracks on my paint mare for two years and I just thought she had weak hoof walls naturally. Been using a curved one since 2018. I feel like I just found out I've been brushing my teeth wrong my whole life.
