Vent: I tried a new hoof stand versus my old one on a tough draft horse yesterday

My old stand kept tipping with this big Belgian, but the new one with the wider base and rubber feet held solid the whole time. It made trimming his back feet way faster and safer. Anyone have a favorite stand for really heavy horses?

That wider base is a total game changer for drafts. My old stand was a nightmare on my Percheron mare until I switched to one with a heavy steel plate underneath. The extra weight and those non slip feet make all the difference when they decide to lean. What brand did you end up going with?

That wider base is smart but honestly nobody talks about how the surface underneath matters just as much. I've got a Shetland cross that's super fidgety, and on concrete a steel plate is great, but on packed dirt or gravel it can actually sink or tilt. I ended up welding a flared rim onto the bottom of mine, kind of like a sled runner, so it distributes the weight across a bigger area instead of just relying on friction. Works like a charm on soft ground, and the mare can lean all she wants without it shifting. She still tries to paw at it sometimes though, lol.

Actually, I've found them to be a total trip hazard.
