Wasted $200 on a new rasp that just didn't hold up like my old one
I bought a 'premium' rasp from a big catalog last fall, thinking it would be an upgrade, but the teeth dulled out after just a dozen or so trims and now it's basically a fancy paperweight. Has anyone else had a specific brand or model totally fail on them like that?

Yeah, I was the same way, always figured the new stuff from the big names had to be better. Then I got one of those "pro-grade" cabinet scrapers. Looked perfect, felt heavy, cost a fortune. It couldn't hold a burr to save its life, not even through one small tabletop. My old one from a flea market box? Still going. It totally changed how I look at tools now. Sometimes the old design or the mystery metal just works.

That's a good point from @michael880, but it's often the heat treatment that fails on new ones, not the base metal.
