I remember a professor once said criticism often misses the bigger picture. She spent twenty minutes tearing apart a single footnote in my paper. It felt more about showing off her knowledge than helping me learn.

Wow, yeah, that rings a bell. I had a professor who would do the same thing - zero in on one tiny detail just to flex. Did she ever give you any actual feedback on the main argument, or was it all about that footnote?
