My sewing teacher said to always press seams before trimming... I thought she was being picky
I was making a denim jacket a few months ago and skipped pressing the seams before cutting them down. After I finished, the collar was all puckered and the armholes didn't sit right. So I went back and made a second version where I pressed every single seam first, and it came out perfectly flat. Has anyone else found that pressing actually makes a bigger difference than you'd think?

lol yeah I had basically the exact same thing happen with a tote bag. I thought I was saving time by skipping the pressing step and the whole thing came out twisted and lumpy. Pressing first is honestly a game changer, makes everything just click together way smoother.

Have you ever tried using spray starch on those seams before pressing? I swear it makes such a difference especially on tricky fabrics like cotton lawn or anything slippery. My grandma taught me that trick and I thought she was just being extra but nope, total game changer. Now I pretty much starch everything before I press seams open. It keeps the fabric from shifting around and helps the seam lie totally flat.
