Overheard a fabric buyer say she never looks at the back of the bolt

I was at a textile trade show in Portland last month and heard a designer brag she only judges fabric by the front side. Turns out that's how she ended up with a whole run of jackets that started pilling after 3 washes because the back weave was loose. Anyone else check both sides before buying in bulk?

Oh man, that's like when I bought a whole box of 'premium' t-shirts online and didn't check the inside seams. First time I washed them they looked like I'd let a cat use them as a scratching post. Glad I'm not the only one who's been burned by trusting the front and forgetting the back. I still have that pile of sad, lumpy tees in my closet as a reminder.

Did you try ironing them inside out on low heat?
