Changed my mind about using a skid steer for every dig after a close call in Boise

I was setting a 6-foot cedar post and the bucket clipped the top rail, sending the whole section into a client's new patio. Now I hand-dig within 5 feet of any structure. Anyone else have a rule like that after a mishap?

Learned my lesson with a fence post and a truck mirror. My new rule is to just assume I WILL hit anything expensive.

My old truck has a permanent dent from a concrete parking block. That's why I agree with @william_barnes, assuming you'll hit something forces you to leave a REAL amount of space. It saves a ton of stress and money.

My dad's garage door has a similar dent, but from assuming he wouldn't hit it.
