Had a treated post snap clean off at the base yesterday in a new subdivision.

Honestly, it was a 6x6 that I set just last week and the ground was way softer than it looked. Ngl, I had to pull the whole section and start over with a concrete collar. Anyone else run into this with the new pressure treated stuff they're selling now?

That new treated lumber is a real gamble sometimes. Feels like half of it is still soggy when you get it. Had a similar thing happen with a mailbox post that just leaned over after a good rain. The concrete collar was the right call, even if it's a pain to redo the work.

Why don't they let that lumber dry properly before shipping it? It's not just a gamble, it feels like they're rushing it out the door green to meet demand. I've started checking every piece with a moisture meter right in the parking lot and rejecting anything over 19%. That extra step saves so much trouble later, even if it means another trip to the store. The water just pools around a wet post and ruins the whole setup, no matter how well you pack the dirt or pour the concrete. It's a basic quality control issue that's become our problem to solve.
