Hot take: I thought those plastic post sleeves were a waste of money until a job in Spokane
We had to put in a fence line right next to a busy road where salt spray in winter is a real problem. The customer insisted on these white plastic sleeves that slide over the pressure-treated posts, and I figured it was just extra cost. After three winters, those posts look brand new while the ones we did without them a block away are already showing rot at the base. Has anyone else had a client push for a product you doubted that actually worked out?

My uncle in Michigan had the same thing with his dock posts. He used those sleeves after the old ones rotted out in two years. It feels like we're all trained to see add-ons as useless upsells. But sometimes the extra layer is the only thing that actually does the job long term. Makes you wonder what else we're brushing off that could save a ton of work later.

That's a solid point about the dock sleeves. It makes me think about how we judge value upfront versus long term. What's something you almost skipped buying but ended up being totally worth the extra cost?
