Saw a vinyl fence in Scottsdale that made me question everything about post spacing

Just got back from a job in Scottsdale, Arizona. The client wanted a quote to replace their neighbor's fence. It was a 6-foot white vinyl, maybe 5 years old. Every single post was leaning at least 3 inches out of line. The whole run looked like a wavy noodle. They used those cheap metal spike anchors in the rocky ground. It's a total fail. That soil needs proper concrete footings, no way around it. How do you guys handle rocky ground without ending up with a mess like that?

Yeah, those spike anchors in rocky ground are a joke. You have to dig and pour concrete, it's the only way it lasts.

Tried one of those spike anchors last year for a shed. Hit a rock, bent the thing sideways like a cartoon. My neighbor laughed so hard he dropped his coffee. Ended up with a hole full of concrete and a very expensive metal pretzel. What's the worst anchor fail you've seen?
