Guy at the farmers market told me my kimchi smelled like a barn

It was a rainy Saturday about 2 months ago at the downtown market. This older fella walks up to my booth, sniffs the air, and goes "this smells like a wet barn in August." I laughed because he wasn't wrong about the funk, but he wouldn't even try a sample. I told him that's the good bacteria doing its job, but he just walked off shaking his head. Anyone else gotten weird reactions from people who don't get strong fermentation smells?

My buddy Ryan tried it a few weeks later actually. Said it worked okay but nothing mind blowing. He went back to his usual stuff though.
