My 3-gallon glass carboy cracked during a cold crash last night, so I had to quickly transfer the sauerkraut brine into a food-grade bucket to save it.

Has anyone else had a fermenter fail right at the finish line, and what's your go-to backup container?

Classic fermenter betrayal right at the end. My backup is always a basic food safe bucket from the hardware store, they're cheap and never pull this kind of dramatic exit. Lost a good carboy to a cold crash once, never trusted glass in the fridge again.

My uncle's garage floor still has the stain from a carboy that gave up like yours, jason562. It's funny how we trust fancy gear over simple tools that just work. I've seen the same thing happen with kitchen gadgets and camping stoves, where basic always wins.
