Pro tip: my aunt swore you had to weigh down sauerkraut with a ziploc bag of brine, not a glass weight

I spent 8 months fighting moldy batches until I finally tried her bag method last October and honestly it worked way better than my fancy ceramic weight, has anyone else had better luck with the cheap trick over the proper gear?

You know I always thought the bag thing was overhyped but after losing a whole crock to mold last winter I switched and man was I wrong, that brine bag seals way better than anything fancy I've bought.

Has anyone tried just using a vacuum sealer with the brine bag? I double bag mine and hit it with the sealer on the gentlest setting. No mold in two years. The bags themselves are cheap too, not like those overpriced kits.
