I thought expired film was just a gimmick until I shot a roll from 1995 at the state fair.

That roll from 1995 probably had some wild color shifts. I get the appeal for a specific look, but people talk about expired film like it's some magical secret. It's just old, degraded chemicals. You can get similar weird tones by messing with the scan settings or even a cheap filter on your phone.

My uncle found a box of 1988 Fuji in his attic last summer. The colors came out this weird pink and green, like a bad Instagram filter from 2012. He was so proud of the "vibe" but it just looked like the film was stored next to a heater. I get the fun of the surprise, but you're right, it's just chemistry breaking down.

Yeah exactly, it's just chemistry breaking down. People act like it's some special art but you could leave a roll in your car for a summer and get the same thing.
