Just realized I was loading my film wrong for a year
I kept getting weird light leaks on the right side of my frames. I thought my camera back was broken. Last week, a guy at the camera shop in Spokane watched me load a roll and said, 'You're not pulling the leader far enough across the take-up spool.' I'd been short by about an inch. Has anyone else had a simple loading mistake ruin a bunch of shots?

My first roll was just blank leader for the same reason.

Yeah that's a really good point. I used to think testing with actual film was the only way to go. But seeing a blank roll come out totally clean changed my mind. It proves the camera itself is working right before you waste any shots. Makes way more sense now.

Heard a repair guy say the same thing once, blank leader is the best test you can do without risking a whole roll. Saved me from tossing a perfectly good Canon AE-1P that just needed new light seals.
