Wasted a whole roll on a camera I thought was fine

Honestly, I shot 36 photos with my old Pentax K1000 last month, thinking the light seals looked okay. Got the scans back and every single frame had these huge light leaks, basically ruined. That's about $15 for the film and $20 for developing, gone. Has anyone else had a seal fail completely like that without any warning signs?

Did you check the seal around the film door hinge too?

My K1000 did the same thing last year, ate a whole roll of Portra 400. The seals looked totally fine, no crumbling or anything. It's like they just decided to retire mid-roll. I started replacing the seals myself after that, it's not too hard with a kit from eBay. You just have to be ready for sticky black bits everywhere.
