I actually felt relieved when our closing costs hit $15,000, which goes against the common panic I see online.
Seeing that final number in black and white made the whole process feel real and manageable, so has anyone else had a big cost that ended up being a positive turning point?

That's a really good way to look at it. Getting the final number, even a big one, must have made everything click into place. We had a similar moment with our property tax bill, which was way higher than the estimate. Seeing the real figure, as scary as it was, finally let us budget for the actual cost instead of the guess. It stopped the guessing game and that was a huge relief.
