I was set on a new build condo until my brother said something

We were looking at a new unit in the West End last Friday, and he just asked 'Who's gonna fix that when the building settles in a year?'. He's a contractor and said new builds often have hidden issues that show up after the first year, stuff the warranty might not cover. I hadn't even thought about that, I was just focused on the shiny kitchen. Now I'm looking at older townhouses from the 90s that might be more solid. Anyone else get spooked off new construction for a similar reason?

That's the exact worry that keeps me up at night. You're basically buying a beta version of a building and hoping the developer actually patches the bugs. Older stock might need updates, but at least the big structural surprises are usually done.

Yeah, that "who's gonna fix that" line would get me too. Your brother has a point, new builds can be a headache. Older places have their own issues but at least they're settled.
