My realtor told me my offer letter was too generic

I wrote a basic offer on a house in Columbus last month, just the price and closing date. My realtor said it looked like a template and told me to add a personal note about why we loved the place, like the backyard for our dog. We added two sentences and the seller picked our offer over a higher one. Has anyone else had a small change make a big difference in a bidding situation?
