Remember when you could just call the county for a sewer scope?
Our inspector flagged a potential issue with the main line, so I figured I'd check the public records. Spent two full days getting bounced between the water district and the city planning office in Tacoma before someone finally admitted those maps are from 1978 and basically useless. Ended up paying $350 for a camera inspection that took 20 minutes. How do you even figure out what's underground before you buy now?

Welcome to the modern home buying process, where you pay a fortune to find out what the city should already know.

Man, that hits way too close to home. Just went through the inspection circus on a place last month. The amount of basic stuff you have to hire someone to dig up feels crazy. It really does seem like public records should be clearer from the start.

Ugh, tell me about it. @johnson.adam is right, it's a total racket.
