Showerthought: my dad bought his first house for less than my car costs now

Three years ago, I was looking at tiny condos in Tempe and feeling totally priced out. Last month, I finally got my offer accepted on a townhouse, but the down payment wiped out my savings. My dad told me he bought his first place in 1985 for $45,000, which is less than my Honda cost new. It just makes you think about how different the game is now. Anyone else have parents with stories that make your head spin?

Felt the same way when my mom told me her first mortgage payment. Honestly, just had to stop comparing and focus on what I could actually control, like my budget. Still stings sometimes though.
