Serious question, did anyone else think old cameras were just for display?

I found a Polaroid SX-70 at a yard sale in Asheville for $15, and for a year I just kept it on a shelf. Yesterday, I saw a pack of film at the drugstore, put it in, and it actually worked. What other 'junk' have you guys actually gotten to function?

That's a great find. Did you test it with the original battery or did you have to hunt down a modern replacement? Those old SX-70 batteries are a specific shape.

Oh man, the battery hunt is the worst part. I ended up using an adapter for those modern 6V batteries, but getting the contacts to line up right was a whole project. Felt like a victory just getting the light meter to turn on.

Stole a modern iType battery pack from a friend's dead camera and rigged it in with some creative tape work. It's ugly as sin but the meter flickers to life now. Honestly half the fun of these old cameras is just getting them to work at all.
