Just read a stat about glue down LVP that blew my mind

Was looking at some old trade mags at the supply house yesterday. One article said over 40% of glue down vinyl plank jobs fail within five years if the slab isn't prepped right. I always thought it was way more forgiving than that. The writer showed photos of a huge bubble in a hospital hallway from moisture. Made me double check my moisture meter readings on the current job. Anyone else see failure rates that high?

Yeah that stat tracks, saw a whole office floor buckle last year from a vapor barrier skip.

That "huge bubble in a hospital hallway" image would stick with me too.

But I have to disagree with you there, @the_sam. That bubble image gets shared because it's shocking, but it's a worst case scenario, not the norm. Most vapor barrier issues are way more boring, just slow moisture damage you never see. Fixing it right is expensive, so corners get cut, and that office floor buckling dakota798 mentioned is the real result. The scary picture misses the everyday neglect that actually causes most of the problems.
