Why does nobody talk about the real cost of those cheap foam bricks?
I heard a new florist at the market in Portland say she saves a ton using them, but my arrangements from last spring totally fell apart after 3 days. What do you use for tall centerpieces that actually holds up?
Ugh, tell me about it. Learned that lesson the hard way at my cousin's wedding. I tried to be thrifty and used those foam blocks for some big vase arrangements. By the time they cut the cake, the hydrangeas were basically lying down on the job. Total mess. Now I just bite the bullet and use the good, dense wet foam for anything that needs to stand up. It costs more, but at least the flowers drink water and don't face-plant into the potato salad.
