Found a 2007 forum thread where a guy was convinced his house was haunted by a dial-up modem

Was talking to my cousin about old internet sounds, and she said 'remember when a connection felt like a place you were trying to get to, not just a thing you had?' It made me look at those old tech support panic threads totally differently. Anyone else have a favorite weird old tech mystery thread?

My favorite was the guy who swore his printer only printed in Wingdings after midnight. The whole forum tried to help, someone suggested an exorcism. Turned out his cat was walking on the keyboard and changing the font. What's the weirdest tech glitch you've ever had?

Think you're romanticizing it a bit. Those old dial-up sounds were a nightmare, not some nostalgic journey. I remember spending hours trying to get online, only to have the connection drop the second someone picked up the phone. A friend of mine had a "haunted" computer that would randomly open the CD tray, turned out to be a loose wire in the desk. The mystery threads were entertaining, sure, but let's not pretend slow, unreliable tech was some magical experience. Would you really trade your fiber optic connection for a 56k modem just to have a spooky story to tell?

That modem ghost just needed tech support.
