I thought the '2007 forum post about a haunted copy of Microsoft Word' was just a creepypasta, but I found the original thread.
It was on a defunct tech support board. The guy was dead serious, posting screenshots of his document where the Clippy assistant would appear and type 'I SEE YOU' on its own. The replies were a mix of people trying to help with his malware scan and others getting genuinely freaked out. What convinced me it was real was finding a follow-up post from 2009 where the same user apologized, saying it was a prank by his roommate who had remote access to his PC. Has anyone else stumbled on an old thread where the OP was in on the joke the whole time?

Spencer saying the prank makes it creepier is spot on. The best jokes always have that layer of real fear behind them. That guy's roommate is a legend for committing to the bit for two whole years. Honestly, getting the whole internet to run malware scans for a ghost is top tier trolling. The apology post must have felt like the biggest mic drop in forum history.

Man, that's even better. I mean, the prank reveal almost makes the whole thing creepier in a way? Like the setup was so good it fooled everyone for years.
