Appreciation post: A $3 notebook from a thrift store gave me a new hobby
I found this old composition book at a Goodwill in Tacoma, and it was full of these really detailed pencil sketches of local birds. I mean, I'm no artist, but it made me want to try. I spent maybe three bucks on it, and then another twenty on a cheap sketchpad and some pencils. Now I go to the park on weekends and just try to draw what I see. It's weirdly relaxing. Has anyone else picked up a hobby from something they found written down?

Yeah it can be a lot of work lol. My buddy got so into his model trains that he basically turned his garage into a tiny city. It's wild how deep a hobby can go, right @riverf34?

That "lot of work" idea is interesting. For some people, the work is the whole point, it's how they relax. It's not about the finished thing, it's about keeping your hands busy.
