Found a sketchbook in a thrift store bin that turned into a whole project

I was digging through the art supplies at a Goodwill in Tacoma last week and found this old, half-filled sketchbook tucked under some board games. It was full of these really detailed pencil drawings of the same house from different angles, like someone was trying to remember it. The last page had an address and the words 'Grandma's porch, summer of 92' written in shaky cursive. On a whim, I drove to the address, which was about twenty minutes away, and found a vacant lot. I took some pictures of the lot and the street, then went to the local library to look at old city directories. It took me three afternoons, but I found the family name that lived there in 1990. I ended up finding a granddaughter on social media and sent her the scans of the drawings. She said her grandfather had Alzheimer's and used to draw to jog his memory, and they thought all his sketchbooks were lost. Has anyone else ever tried to return something they found in a journal, and how did it go?

Oh wow, that's amazing you did that. I always check old books and stuff for notes. Best tip is to search the name with the town and "obituary" first, it can list surviving family.

Actually, @rivera.susan, searching obituaries first is a solid tip.
