Ugh, termite damage inside is the worst kind of surprise. It really sucks when you think you scored a cool piece and then find that. Good looking out on the inspection tip, it's so easy to miss and then you bring those pests right into your house. I always get paranoid and check things three times now after a bad find myself.

Check every single crack and joint with a flashlight. Termites can hide in the SMALLEST spaces you wouldn't even think to look. I learned the hard way after bringing in a side table that looked perfect. The damage was all inside the legs, totally hidden. It's not just about the wood you see, it's about the structure you can't. That one mistake cost me way more in treatment than the stupid table was ever worth.
