Found a 'vintage' camera at a garage sale that was just a paperweight

Spent $40 on what I thought was a cool old Kodak Brownie, but it was just a hollow plastic prop from a play. The seller swore it 'just needed film.' Anyone know a good way to spot fakes before buying?

Man, that's a rough way to learn about prop cameras.

Check the weight first. Real cameras have heft from all the metal and glass inside. That plastic feel is a dead giveaway.
