Found a weird metal box in an alley dumpster last month

My buddy who does metalwork said it's a 1950s film splicing block, used for cutting movie reels. I was gonna scrap it, but now I'm keeping it as a display piece. Anyone know where I could find more info on these old cinema tools?

Hold up, you were going to scrap it? That's wild. A piece of history like that, and it was almost gone for good. Good thing your buddy knew what it was. For info, maybe check some old film collector forums online. They love this kind of niche gear.

My friend's uncle nearly tossed a whole box of old camera lenses into a dumpster last year. Turns out one of them was some rare German lens from the 1950s. A guy at a flea market spotted it and basically yelled for him to stop. He ended up selling it for enough to fix his porch. It's crazy what gets thrown out because people just don't know. Those forums are full of stories like that.

Yeah @charliep79 is right, those forums are the spot. Heard some old projectionists hang out there and share manuals.
