My neighbor called my alley find a 'sad ghost' and I can't unsee it

I grabbed this busted ceramic doll head from a curb in Portland last week, thought it was a cool creepy find. Showed my neighbor, and she just goes, 'Oh, a sad ghost.' It was the way she said it, like it was obvious. Now every time I look at it, I don't see a doll anymore, just this little lonely spirit. Anyone else have a find that totally changed meaning after someone else's comment?

Respectfully disagree with that take. A sad ghost would have this resigned energy, like it's given up haunting and just drifts around sighing. That doll head looks more like it's quietly plotting something, waiting for you to forget it's there.

That "sad ghost" thing is so specific, it really sticks. Did your neighbor say anything else about it, or was it just that one offhand comment that completely rewired how you see the doll head now?

Nah, it didn't rewire anything for me. I mean, I get why she said it, but I always just saw a broken toy. Maybe it's because I found it myself, so her idea doesn't really stick. To me it's more about the weird texture and the hollow feel than any ghost story. It's just plastic, you know? Some people see stories in everything.
