Snagged a peculiar lemon zester from a curb pile, folks say it's dull but I disagree.

They claim it won't zest right, but I tried it on a lime and it did well. Old stuff is often put together better.

Honestly, is the ZESTER debate that important? People get so worked up over kitchen tools, but it's just a thing to scrape citrus. Your lime test shows it works for you, and that's what counts. Old stuff can be hit or miss, but if it zests, it's fine. Some act like it's a CRITICAL kitchen skill, but really, it's not that serious. Tools are tools, and everyone has their own take.

Roll the lime on the counter hard first, it bursts the oil sacs under the skin. The old microplane style zesters catch way more of that spray. You get a bigger burst of flavor, not just dry green bits.
