I tried two ways to track my freelance hours and one saved my sanity

For years I just wrote my hours in a notebook, but last month I tried a free app called Clockify against my old paper method. The app caught over $200 in billable time I would have missed because I forgot to write down a few quick calls. Now I can see exactly where my week went instead of guessing. Has anyone else found a simple tool that made a big difference in getting paid for all their work?

My old boss made us use a punch clock system, this big gray metal machine from the 80s. I spent maybe 15 minutes every Friday just adding up those tiny paper time cards with a calculator, and the total was always wrong. Switching to a simple spreadsheet felt like leaving the dark ages.

Paper is a trap, honestly.

Oh man, @jones.grace, you just made me remember my old filing cabinet! I had so much stuff in there I never looked at again. It felt like a weird duty to keep all those bank statements and manuals. Finally just shredded most of it last year and it was so freeing. Paper really does trick you into thinking it's important.
