In my workshop, we're split on shellac. Half love the classic shine, half say it chips too easy. Where do you stand?

Ugh, that chipping is so real... My first keepsake box looks gorgeous until you touch it and little flakes come off. Perfect example of picking pretty over tough.

Shellac's a perfect example, but honestly it's everywhere once you start looking. I've got this painted dresser that chips if you breathe on it wrong, all because I wanted that specific chalky color you can't get in tougher finishes. We do the same thing with clothes, phones, even cars sometimes, picking the thing that looks right now over what'll actually last.

In my first woodworking class, shellac was praised for its glow but warned for being brittle. Doesn't that mirror how we sacrifice durability for beauty in so many things?
