Local markets are starting to feature more refinished pieces, and it feels like our skills are getting recognized again.

Heard on a podcast that handmade and redone furniture sales are up. Guess the big stores are finally noticing what's been popular in neighborhoods for ages.

That part about "skills getting recognized again" is a bit off to me. This kind of work never really went away in our area, it's been huge for years. I see amazing redone furniture at craft fairs and on neighborhood pages all the time. The local markets are just finally catching up to what people have been doing in their garages forever. It's less about a comeback and more about the shops finally paying attention.

Totally agree with wendyb32 about it never really going away. In my area, people have been fixing up old chairs and dressers in their garages for as long as I can remember. My next door neighbor sells these amazing painted cabinets at our town's summer market, and she's always packed. The shops are definitely just catching on to something that was already everywhere.
