PSA: I switched from a 4-inch foam roller to a 2-inch mohair for my lacquer work last year.

Used to think the bigger roller gave a smoother coat, but the mohair leaves way fewer bubbles and streaks. A client in Tampa pointed out the difference on a maple table I finished. Anyone else make a similar switch for clear coats?

Yeah, that "cleaner finish" thing @eric_carr said is spot on. Made the same switch and won't go back.

Read an article a while back that broke down the science behind it. Basically, mohair holds less paint so it lays down a thinner, more even coat. Saw a side by side test on an old door frame and the difference was crazy. The mohair side looked like glass while the regular roller left that bumpy texture. Honestly, it just makes the whole job look way more professional.

My shop in Austin switched to mohair rollers for all polyurethane jobs. The finish is just cleaner with way less orange peel.
