Setting up my new smart thermostat took an entire Saturday
I thought it would be a quick swap, but the wiring was different from my old unit and the app kept failing to connect. Has anyone else spent way too long on what should be a simple install?

Same thing happened to me last fall. I figured it would be a thirty minute swap because I watched a five minute video. Three hours later I had the faceplate off staring at wires that didn't match any diagram in the manual. The worst part was when I got it all wired up and the app kept saying "no device found" even though I was standing right next to it. Customer support put me on hold for so long I started questioning if I'd rather just freeze in the winter. Took me until Sunday afternoon to get it working and by then I didn't even care about the smart features anymore.

Honestly, my smart thermostat install turned into a whole weekend project too. Tbh I spent more time on hold with customer support than actually wiring the thing. Ngl I felt pretty dumb staring at the app error message for two hours straight. The worst part was when it finally connected and then just decided to forget my wifi. These things are supposed to make life easier, not make you question your whole ability to follow basic instructions.

Forgetting your wifi after all that is just cruel. Honestly feels like these gadgets are designed to mess with us on purpose. The whole point is to avoid exactly this kind of tech headache.
