Lol, my dad and I keep arguing over bringing family to job sites. He says it builds interest, I worry about distractions. What's your rule?

Totally with @nathan119 on this one. Seeing the real work is what matters most. Distractions are temporary, but that spark of interest can last a lifetime. Your dad is trying to share his world with you. Let the kid see where the magic happens.

Bring the family every single time. Your dad gets it way more than you do. Watching real work happen beats any classroom lesson for sparking genuine interest. That bonding moment is worth way more than worrying about a minor distraction. You might be focusing on the wrong thing entirely.

My dad brought me to his welding shop every summer from age 10. I mean, seeing metal come together like that stuck with me more than any class I ever took.
