CPU placement timing in build guides has me puzzled
Some build guides say to place the CPU on the motherboard before it's in the case, while others advise doing it after. I'm worried about making it easy to reach or keeping it safe from harm. Which way do you think is better?

Always before, no question.
My last build was in a Fractal Design North, and even that somewhat open case would have made CPU installation a huge pain. You just have way more room to see the socket clearly and push that locking arm down with good force. The overhead light in my kitchen hits the motherboard perfectly on the table, but inside the case everything gets shadowy. I also hate the idea of dropping a tiny screw into the depths of the case if I did the cooler after.

Actually, it really depends on your case. Some modern cases have cutouts or enough space to install the CPU after without much trouble. I've done it both ways and neither is wrong.

Which guides are you looking at that say to do it after? I've built a few PCs and putting the CPU in before the motherboard goes in the case is way easier in my experience. You have so much more room to work and can see exactly what you're doing. Trying to line up that little triangle and get the locking arm down inside a cramped case sounds like a nightmare. I'd be way too worried about bending pins or dropping the CPU. Doing it on a flat, open table just feels a lot safer to me.
