Showerthought: My weekly takeout order was costing me more than I thought

I added up all my food delivery apps for a month and saw I spent over $300! Now I set a cash envelope with $50 for treats each week. It forces me to cook more and save the rest. This simple switch put an extra $200 in my savings account last month!

Yeah that cash envelope trick is smart. I did something similar where I moved all my food app money to a separate bank account. Seeing that balance drop to zero halfway through the month was a wake-up call. Now I pause for like five minutes before hitting order, and most of the time I just make a sandwich instead. That pause saved me so much.

@zara978's pause trick is good, but I deleted the apps entirely. Made myself re-download them if I wanted takeout, which took time. During that wait, I'd realize I was just bored, not hungry, and make popcorn or eggs instead. That barrier cut my spending in half without feeling like I was missing out. Seeing the delivery icon gone helped break the habit fast.
