I finally got why GeoCities pages mattered so much back then
Had a chat with my cousin who's 22 last weekend. She saw a GeoCities page I saved on a floppy disk and asked why anyone would use those neon backgrounds. Told her it was the only way regular people could make a website without knowing code. She didn't get it until I showed her how every page was basically someone's bedroom wall with stickers. Made me realize those ugly pages were about freedom, not design. Anyone else still have a GeoCities page saved somewhere?

Still got mine on a CD-R somewhere. The page had a hot pink background with stars that scrolled down and a guestbook I was obsessed with. My bio literally said "I like pizza and video games" like that was deep. The best part was the embedded midi of the Friends theme song that auto played whenever someone visited. Embarrassing looking back but it was MY space on the internet.

Hold up @spencerw72, a whole CD-R for a GeoCities page feels like overkill. It's just a personal site, not a backup of the Library of Congress. You're acting like you preserved a cultural artifact when it was really just a hot pink mess with a midi file.
