My guestbook script broke on a Sunday in 1999 and I stayed up till 3am fixing it
I was in my dorm room at Kent State running a fan page for old Godzilla movies, and my guestbook form started spitting out blank entries right before a midterm. I had hardcoded the CGI path as /cgi-bin/gbook.cgi but our web host moved things to /cgi-bin/guest and I never got the email about it. So I sat there with a printed copy of the Perl script and a highlighter, and I found the broken line around 1am. I fixed the path, added a stupid little error message so it would never fail silent again, and the guestbook was back up by breakfast. Anyone else have a CGI bin move break their site without warning, and how did you catch it before people noticed?
