My old Geocities site just vanished from the Wayback Machine
I went to show my nephew my 1998 fan page for the X-Files last week, and the archive link gave a 404. I had it bookmarked for years. It was all purple text on a black starfield background with a MIDI file that played the theme song. Did the Internet Archive lose some data, or did my old host block the crawler? Has anyone else had a personal site from that era just disappear from the record?

That's a real bummer, it happens more than you'd think. Sometimes old hosts put up blocks or the archive's own data gets corrupted. Have you tried searching for the site under a different archived date?

Yeah, that sucks. Richard_Roberts80 is right, it happens a lot.

Corrupted data is such a pain. @richard_roberts80, how do you even check for different archived dates... is there a trick to it?
