PSA: Don't host your vintage web archive on FreeTripod unless you want to lose it

Lost a whole collection of 1998-2002 GeoCities pages last month because FreeTripod shut down with barely a week's notice. I had 47 sites mirrored there, all those weird Angelfire tribute pages and early Flash experiments. No warning emails, no export tool, nothing. The Wayback Machine caught maybe half of them but the rest are just gone. I was sitting in my office at 2am when I noticed the domain was just a parked page. Anyone else lose stuff to an old free host vanishing?

Oh man, that stings. I lost a bunch of old Angelfire pages from 2000 when Tripod pulled something similar on me back in the day, just suddenly gone with no warning.

120 GB of a Myspace backup gone in 2019 here, same kind of deal with no warning. Did you at least get any kind of heads up from Angelfire back then, like an email or a notice on the site, or was it completely radio silence until the pages just stopped loading? I swear, these companies treat old user data like it's nothing, just deleting years of work and memories like it's trash. It really makes you wonder how much of the early internet just vanished without anyone even noticing or caring. Was there anything specific from your old Angelfire pages you wished you saved more than anything else?
