Someone on a forum told me my 90s site looked like a ransom note because I used 8 different fonts

I was showing off my personal page from 1998 that had Comic Sans, Times New Roman, and like five other typefaces. A user named 'webmonkey' commented 'This looks like a ransom note, pick two fonts max.' I went back and changed everything to just Verdana for body text and Impact for headers. It actually made the page way easier to read. Did anyone else get font police feedback back in the day?

Oh man, that takes me back. It's funny how that basic rule about limiting fonts was such a mystery to us back then. I see the same thing now with my kids trying to decorate a poster with every marker color at once. There's a universal moment where you learn that less is more, and it usually takes someone pointing out the visual chaos.

@parkerrodriguez that's like my nephew using every filter on a photo at once.

Ngl, that marker phase is real, it's like every color has to be on the paper at once.
