Thought those old 'Under Construction' GIFs were lazy, then I built a page in 1998 without one and felt like a fraud
Spent 4 hours in my parents' basement on a Saturday trying to make my GeoCities page feel finished without the little digging man, and honestly it never did, so I want to know if anyone else caved and threw the GIF back in just to feel whole.

Did the page ever actually feel unfinished, or was it just that everyone else had the GIF so you thought you needed one too? That little digging guy was basically a promise that more stuff was coming, and on GeoCities that promise almost never got kept. Half those pages sat "under construction" for two years and then just died. So maybe the move was having the guts to call it done, even if it looked bare next to the guy with 14 animated flames and a hit counter. The blank page was honest, the GIF was a lie with better art.
