Wasted $40 on a 'premium' Geocities template kit that was just 3 ugly gifs and some broken HTML

Dropped cash on that template pack thinking it would make my band page look pro but it was basically just a spinning globe, a mail icon, and a bunch of tiled backgrounds that didn't even line up right, has anyone else bought into those overpriced layout collections from the late 90s?

Oh man, you just described my whole 1999 experience right there. I dropped like $30 on a "neon grunge" template pack for my personal site and it was literally just a lime green background tile and an animated skull that didn't even load half the time. My page ended up looking like a broken pizza flyer instead of the cool hacker aesthetic I was going for. Did you at least get that spinning globe to show behind your band name or was it stuck on a white box too?

See, I actually think those old broken templates had way more charm than the clean stuff we get now. At least a glitchy skull felt like someone actually tried to make something weird, even if it failed. Give me the janky animated GIFs and clashing colors over another boring cookie-cutter site any day.
